The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta is a critical resource for the entire state, and it is also where we, in Stockton and other Delta communities, live and work and play. It is also under imminent threat, as the Governor pushes headlong into building massive tunnels beneath the Delta to divert its precious water for the benefit of corporate agriculture and big water districts serving southern California.
Californians will be forced to pay for this $17 billion project, through higher water rates and property taxes, and yet it promises no new water whatsoever and guarantees only the destruction of the Delta and the species, like salmon, that depend on it.
And the people are being cut out of the process, with no vote either at the polls or in the legislature before this disastrous project may be built!
We will not let this happen. I have authored a new law that will require a statewide vote of the people on the Twin Tunnels project. California rejected it once before, and will do so again
Join me and tell Governor Brown that we deserve a vote! Sign the petition and I will make sure that the Delta is heard!
