Green Economy. I support programs like the Chamber of Commerce Green Team San Joaquin that works with business and public agencies to make regulation work for the economy, not against it. We have vast resources here that can be reused and turned into a new economy. Wine Bottle Renew is an example of a new company that reuses our already existing supply of bottles to clean, sterilize and provide to wineries to refill again. They are using the old Del Monte space. DTE Energy is converting an old coal fired regeneration plant and turning it into a biomass plant that uses local materials to make new energy. Tracy is capitalizing on the use of wind and solar to create jobs. These are all growth areas for job and energy creation.
I propose building on the Health Care jobs that are being created in our area. As a veteran, I was proud to work with our area Veterans, to help bring a new Veterans facility to San Joaquin County. This will create more jobs. Additionally, when the Department of Corrections wanted to build three prison hospitals in Stockton, we knew we couldn't stop this, but we fought to guarantee that local construction jobs would be created, and when these new health facilities open we will see thousands of new jobs.
Our past, present and future have always been Agriculture. We have the richest agriculture land in the world, and I will fight to ensure our tradition. I believe we can expand our local economy by promoting Agro-tourism; the public has a growing interest in food and where it comes from, which presents new opportunities for us.
